Donald Loren White

June 26, 1933 — February 2, 2022

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Donald L. White, 88 passed away peacefully on February 2, 2022, at Community Home Health and Hospice of Longview, WA surrounded by loved ones. He was born on June 26, 1933, to Elta and Ellis White of Longview, WA.

Growing up, if you couldn’t find Don, it probably meant he was out on the Toutle River with a fishing pole in hand. Or maybe he was out Germany Creek hunting for the next big game. Don wasn’t your average fisher, he won multiple awards, and was known by his friends as the fish whisperer. It was on the river where he found his peace of mind and felt his absolute best.

After graduating from R.A. Long High School with the class of 1951, Don enlisted in the United States Army where he served for 4 years as a mechanic. After his time serving, he furthered his education at Lower Columbia College and received an Associate Degree in Machinery. While Don didn’t pursue a career in Machinery, it was an accomplishment he was extremely proud of. He knew the value of higher education and was a major encourager for it to his children and grandchildren.

Don was a man who believed in working hard and had the thought, why pay someone when you’ve got two good hands yourself. In his life, he built two beautiful homes from the ground up. The first in Beacon Hill, and the second out on Stella Road where he raised his family. Stella beautiful spot where Mount. St. Helens could be admired with a cup of coffee through the front windows.

If you knew Don well, then you know that adventure was the center of his marriage to Dawn White. For 23 beautiful long years, they traveled the world, round-tripped across America, and chased their dreams. Together, they settled in Kalama, WA for the summers, and Desert Hot Springs, CA for the winters. While snow-birds normally follow the sun, Don really just wanted to spend his time on the golf course, year-round; being out with his best pals every morning.

Throughout Don’s life, he held various different jobs: carpenter, mechanic, machinist, and so many others. His greatest and proudest achievement was his role as President and CEO of Weyerhaeuser Credit Union (Red Canoe Credit Union), where he retired in 1991. It was more than a job to Don, it was a way of life and a space where he felt fully alive.

During retirement, Don spent much of his time involved in various clubs such as Longview, WA Rotary Club, Desert Hot Springs, CA Rotary Club, Kelso, WA Lions Club, Kelso, WA Elks Club, and Palm Springs, CA Moose Club.

Don lived a full life. He traveled and saw the world. He pursued and accomplished having a successful career. He had a family and supported them well. Don meant so much to so many, he was the prankster, the encourager, the ‘Mr. Have a Good Time’, and above all else, he was consistently a reliable supporter.

He is preceded in death by his wife Dawn White of Kalama, WA, parents Elta Connoy and Ellis White of Longview, WA, and a son Steven R. White of Longview, WA.

He is survived by daughter Renee A. (Don) Lien of Longview, WA, son Daniel L. (Sandy) White of Placerville CA, stepson Mark M. (Brinda) Cassidy of Ankeny, Iowa, and stepdaughter Kelly D. (Jeff) Cunningham of Colfax, CA, a sister Carol Scherlie of Fremont, CA, 3 granddaughters, Alexis A. Harris of Portland, OR, Melissa (Andrew) Wilder of Placerville, CA, and Shauna White of Placerville, CA, 5 grandsons, Gabriel M. Harris of Kalama, WA, Adam Cassidy of Highlands Ranch, CO, Brian Cassidy of Ankeny, Iowa, Justin (Justine) Cassidy of Ankeny, Iowa, Ryan (Kristel) Crouse of Sacramento, CA, 4 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
