Donald William Lovegren

Donald William Lovegren was born June 24, 1941 in Clatskanie, Oregon. He was the first born to Lloyd and Helen (Holmes) Lovegren. Don died February 6, 2026 after a long bout of health issues.

Don attended 1st grade at Clatskanie Grade School and grades 2 – 8 at Quincy Grade School. He graduated from Clatskanie High School in 1959.

After graduation he worked for the Oregon Department of Forestry fire crews and manning lookout towers. He later attended Clatsop Community Colleges forestry program.

Don spent most of his working career in the logging industry. He owned and operated a self-loader log truck, did small logging jobs and operated logging equipment. His last few years before retirement he was a lumber grader for a local sawmill.

His favorite pastimes were shopping, hunting, fishing and enjoying the outdoors. His all time favorite thing to do was to spend time with family- especially trips to the beach and long drives in the woods and hills around Clatskanie. He loved being an usher at church on Sunday mornings and wearing his Winnie the Pooh ties for the kids.

Don is survived by his wife of 50 years Virginia (Ginny); 3 sons Andy (Jennifer), Bill (Alissa), and Dan (Mary); 2 children for a previous marriage David (Peggy), and Kathleen. Nine grandchildren Krysta, Peter, Ryan, Luke, Addy, Lilee, Liam, Lidiya, and Lolah. His brother Larry (Cheryl), a niece and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard.

A service will be held at Mayger Downing Community Church on March 21, 2026 @ 2pm. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Logging Memorial at Camp 18, the Clatskanie Library Childrens Program or the Richard Nau Hospice Center.
