Edwin Stanley Nielsen Sr

Edwin Stanley Nielsen Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on June 27, 2025, in Clatskanie, Oregon. Born on March 17, 1950, in Vancouver, Washington, Edwin lived a life characterized by service and dedication both to his family and to his community.

Edwin's career with Portland General Electric spanned an impressive 37 years, during which he demonstrated his commitment and expertise in his field. He was not only a devoted professional but also a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving for eight years as a naval diver and operator, showcasing his sense of duty and love for his country. His military training at the Nuclear Power Training Unit was a testament to his pursuit of knowledge and excellence.

An alumnus of Beaverton High School, class of 1968, Edwin maintained a lifelong passion for learning and engagement. He was a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church in Clatskanie, where he contributed tirelessly to promote faith and community cohesion. Edwin's interests extended beyond his immediate commitments; he was heavily involved in various organizations, including the Vintage Chevrolet Clubs of America, Columbia River Region, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He also shared his love for sports as a dedicated member of the Trail Blazers Booster Club and served as a passionate coach for the Clatskanie Youth Athletic program from 1985 to 2013.

Edwin’s family were the center of his world. He is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor Nielsen, who he married on May 13, 1972 in Beaverton, Oregon and their three children: Kristin McGlothen, Katherine Richardson, and Edwin Nielsen Jr. His legacy continues through his grandchildren—Elizabeth, Margaret, Amanda, Lily, Trevor, Edwin III, and Evan—each of whom he cherished deeply. Edwin is also remembered by his sister, Barbara Sedgewick, and several nieces and nephews, including Molly, Dawn, Maree, Monica, Shannon, Jennifer, Cameron, Lowell IV, Corrine, Joel, Isaac, and Sheena.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Pearl Nielsen, whose love and guidance shaped the man he became, as well as his brother Robert Nielsen. 

A Celebration of Life honoring Edwin will take place on July 25, 2025, at the American Legion Hall in Clatskanie, Oregon, starting at 2:00 PM, with reflections continuing until 3:00 PM.

Edwin Stanley Nielsen Sr. will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his contributions to his community, and his commitment to service. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
